Citizen Lifesaver Course

Bridging the Gap Until Professional Help Arrives

Course Duration: 7.5 hours

Min/Max Class Size: 6-15

Min Age: 18

Cost per Student: $140

Target Audience: Those want to be ready and capable of providing lifesaving care to themselves, their family, and anyone needing it. No medical training or background is needed for this course, but even those with medical training will learn effective care beyond that offered by any other 1st Aid / Lifesaver course around.

Prerequisites:

  • Physical - The CLC is a hands-on class where participants will need to be able to sit, kneel, stand and lie down and vice-versa. The classroom floor is carpeted, but cushions for tender knees will be provided.
  • Mental - A willingness to learn, a desire to be helpful, and the stomach to see some examples of bloody or messy emergencies. Bring your questions, “What ifs” and even your own favorite medical kits or devices. Each question or device will be thoroughly addressed.

Course Purpose:  The difference between life or death does not depend on advanced medical care nearly as much as it does on the right “low tech.” In fact, one of the most common axioms in Emergency Medical Services is “Basic Life Support before Advanced Life Support.” This course will not only demystify what it takes to save a life, it will show you how simple and doable effective care is, equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to provide simple, highly effective life-saving care until professional emergency medical care arrives.

Setting & Method of Instruction: The course is taught in a classroom setting, using real-life graphic footage and/or photos of life-threatening conditions such as cardiac arrests, gunshot wounds, seizures, and other injuries so participants not only understand what true emergencies look like, and how simple most life-saving care is. Each video or picture is followed by a brief guided discussion to discuss the presented case’s actual severity and what options for effective care exist. Throughout the day, participants will repeatedly practice cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), victim positioning, airway maintenance, hemorrhage control, sucking chest wounds, and “Epi-Pens” etc. using the instructors, mannequins, and each other for practice.  Although participants will learn the use of special emergency care items from the OmniFAK-911, they will also be exploring how to make what is needed from commonly available materials.  will be demonstrated and practiced. Though this course is focused on life-threatening emergencies, several other potentially serious conditions will be covered as well.

Caution: This course uses public access graphic footage and photos of actual situations involving medical emergencies, physical trauma, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and various types of injuries. These visual aids are not intended to be gratuitous or to satisfy morbid curiosity but are included to help flush the Hollywood out, replacing it with the ability to better distinguish life-threatening v. non-life-threatening injuries in addition reducing the shock you might feel if you encounter the messiness of a true emergency.

OmniFAK-911 kits will be available, while supplies last, at a price of $165 each.

*Completion of the Citizen Lifesaver Course is not an endorsement or license to practice medicine. Rather, it is intended to inform and educate you about effective methods to recognize and treat emergencies when no practical alternative is available, i.e. professional help is delayed or unavailable. Currently licensed or certified medical professionals remain subject to their respective protocols, regulations and statutes.

Range Emergency Care (REC) Course

While this course is designed for the “untrained” lay-person, it will provide valuable new skills and understanding to those with formal medical training and experience, including emergency medical technicians. *

Selected “real” graphic footage of cardiac arrests, gunshot wounds and other injuries are shown so participants better understand what true emergencies look like, and how simple most life-saving care actually is.

"With his extensive background as a Paramedic and Military Medic, Tony Ricci is supremely qualified to teach First Aid/CPR/AED and the Range Emergency Care (REC) course.  His ability to reduce complex information to manageable and retainable components is exemplary.  The materials and visual aids he uses are real-life examples of medical emergencies and gunshot wounds, thereby allowing students to clearly see the true effects and trauma of such situations.
